Hardwood furniture with character

About the brand
IFD makes solid hardwood furniture with the kind of grain and joinery you used to see in the village cabinetmaker's window. Dining tables, sideboards, and bedroom pieces, mostly in oak and a handful of richer woods, with a finish that lets the timber show. We stock IFD because the proportions suit older houses — pieces that look right in a room with a low ceiling and a flagstone floor — and because the construction is the kind that lasts a generation rather than a decade.
IFD at Canwell
We carry a rotating selection from IFD's range, weighted towards the pieces that work in Cotswold cottages and farmhouses.
On the floor regularly: Dining tables, dining chairs, sideboards, dressers, occasional tables, bedside tables, and chests of drawers in oak and other British hardwoods.
Why see IFD in person
Hardwood furniture lives or dies on the wood, the joinery, and the way the piece sits in a room. None of that comes through a website thumbnail. The grain on a particular oak top, the way a drawer runs out, the heft of a sideboard when you lean against it — these are the things you only judge when the piece is in front of you.
IFD also runs to a tighter scale than the bigger furniture brands, which makes a real difference in a low-ceilinged sitting room or a narrow cottage hallway. Coming in lets us point you towards the pieces that fit the space rather than the ones that overwhelm it.
