Carpets and flooring in the Cotswolds
Choosing a carpet is one of the bigger calls you'll make in a room. Best done in person, in good light, with the rest of your scheme in mind.
What we do
Canwell stocks carpet from Cormar, Brockway, Cavalier, Westex, and Penthouse, in wool, wool-blend, polypropylene, and pure synthetic. Plus the runners, underlay, grippers, and beading to finish the job properly.
Come in and we'll show you the range, pull out sample books you can take home, talk through what works in older Cotswold houses with mixed floor levels and lots of light, and give you a quote that includes the carpet, the fitting, and any door bars or thresholds you need.
The measure is free. So is the second opinion if you've had a quote elsewhere and want to check it.
How fitted carpets work
Visit, or call us first
Have a look at the samples, get a feel for what you like. We're happy to send you home with two or three sample books to live with for a week.
We come and measure
Free, anywhere within a 30-mile radius of Broadway. We bring the chosen samples to the room itself so you can see them in your own light.
We quote, properly
One quote, no hidden extras. Carpet, underlay, grippers, fitting, removal of the old carpet, moving furniture in and out. All in.
We fit, within two to three weeks
Same fitters we've worked with for years. Clean, fast, careful with the rest of the house.
Why see it in person
Carpet photographs badly. Wool reads cool on a screen. Pile direction changes how light falls. The same colour looks darker on the floor than it does on the wall. The only way to know is to feel it, see it in your kind of light, and put it next to the sofa fabric, the curtain, and the wall colour you're working with.
That's the case for visiting any showroom. The case for visiting Canwell specifically is that we let you take samples home, we don't pretend the cheaper option is fine when it isn't, and the fitters are people we trust to be in your house.
Questions people ask
How long does it take from measure to fitted?
Usually two to three weeks, depending on stock and which fitter is next available. Quicker if you're flexible on dates.
Do you move the furniture?
Yes. We take a small charge for very heavy items (pianos, fitted wardrobes, that kind of thing), but everything else is included.
Do you take away the old carpet?
Yes, included in the fitting price.
Can I bring my own carpet to have fitted?
We don't fit third-party carpet, sorry. Our fitters work with our suppliers and we can't guarantee a job we haven't supplied the materials for.
Do you do stairs and landings?
Yes. Stairs are the trickiest carpet job there is, so it's worth coming in to talk through pile direction, the bend, and any spindles before deciding.
Do you do Cotswold cottages with sloping floors?
Yes, often. Older Cotswold properties throw up uneven sub-floors, settled doorways, and odd thresholds, and we work with fitters who know how to handle all of it.
