When ready-made is the right call

Most of the time, made-to-measure is the better answer for the main rooms in a house. Ready-made earns its place when:

You're refreshing a guest room or a holiday let where the windows are standard sizes and a six-week lead time isn't worth the wait.

You want something now. A piece of fabric you've fallen out with, a curtain that the dog has reached, a room that needs to be ready for visitors arriving on Friday.

You want to test a colour or pattern before committing to a made-to-measure version of the same fabric in the room next door.

What we stock

We hold ready-made curtains in the most common sizes: 46-inch, 66-inch, 90-inch, 108-inch widths, in 54-inch, 72-inch, 90-inch drops, in plain, patterned, and a small range of blackouts.

Brands include Riva, Malini, and a rotating selection of smaller fabric houses. Stock changes weekly, so it's worth checking before you make a special trip if you're after something specific.

Measuring up before you visit

Three measurements get you to the right pair:

  1. The width of your pole or track, end-to-end including any decorative finials.
  2. The drop: from the pole or track to where you want the curtain to end (sill, below sill, or floor).
  3. The pole position: ideally 6 to 8 inches above the window frame, and 6 to 8 inches wider than the frame on each side, so the curtains can pull right back.

If you've got the old curtain to bring with you, even better.
